Money makes the world go around
The world go around
The world go around
Money makes the world go around
It makes the world go 'round.

"Money makes the world go around," and yet, how many of us really know what we're doing with it? Do we have proper financial accounts in order? Are we prepared for a crisis?
Before I scare you and myself any further, I'm not going to be answering most of my own questions, because, honestly, I suck at financial management. I'm just not good at it. Never have been. I can figure out other people's budgets better than I can figure out my own. I think it's a classic avoidance I have with monetary figures and budgets that I should be able to rationally analyze, except that my eyes grow tired and roll into the back of my head and I never can focus on it more than a few minutes at a time.
I also have this problem of never working for great amounts of money. I've always called myself "non-profit boy" because I tend to work for causes I believe in and end up settling for less money than I should be making with my education background. But then, it's what I want to do with my life and if I'm enjoying it then.... But then, I have bills to pay and things I want to do for myself.... But then, it's a good cause.... But then, I need to have money for retirement and such...... I hate money management and planning.
I don't have a great financial situation either. I should since I basically got my education paid for, but I don't. Too much working for little pay, or not working for periods at a time, or just not properly managing my money. I'm dumb like that.
But I'm gonna try to turn things around. (It doesn't help that my current work situation is volatile, let alone the economy and world activities, but I'm gonna try.) As such, I met with a credit counselor last week to go over my priorities and budgeting. (She actually said I was doing pretty good and just needed to be more disciplined. Go me.) And my big plan is to learn WHERE DOES ALL MY MONEY GO this month since it's really hard for me to figure it out most of the time. I go to the ATM, I take out money, it's gone, I go to the ATM, I take out money, it's gone... and on and on. WHERE DOES ALL MY MONEY GO? Well, that's my project for this month. (As well as learning more about how money can be better managed, controls us, can be utilized for positive rewards, eats away at our lives, can be made a good thing for us.) And you're along for this ride with me.
I'll be keeping a running tab of what I spend in cash everyday this month. I won't be listing the major items like rent, payments, etc. since I already know those and you don't need to know them. But I really would like to have some idea where my cash/ATM money goes everyday. And then maybe I'll learn how to better manage that monthly/daily outlay of cash. Got any ideas?
